Lap Swim
Lanes are in high demand during lap swim. The following rules have been
adopted to enable optimum use of lanes, to keep slower swimmers from
being overrun, to enable faster swimmers to get the best possible
workout, and to prevent injuries. Lifeguards have the full authority of
the board of directors to enforce these rules.

Lap Swimming Rules
- All patrons in lap lanes must swim laps. Maximum occupancy is 4
patrons per lane.
- During Noon Lap Swim, individuals who are not swimming laps or are
swimming at a slower pace will be asked to vacate the lap lanes and use
the Social/therapeutic lane.
- During Noon Lap Swim, Lane #1 is for therapeutic swimmers doing
stationary exercise. No lap swimming is allowed in this lane during noon
lap swim. Any exceptions must be pre-approved by the General Manager.
- All patrons must swim in a lane that matches their swimming speed (see
Lane Designations).
- The diving blocks are not to be used during lap swim.
- Equipment such as pull buoys, masks, fins, snorkels, and paddles may
be used, but must be used properly.
- Only 1 guest per member allowed in pool during lap swim. Guests must
leave the pool if all lanes are filled and members are
waiting to lap swim.
Lap Swimming Etiquette
- Lane occupancy:
- When 2 swimmers are in a lane:
- Divide lane in half, with each swimmer staying on their
agreed-upon side of the lane
- When more than 2 swimmers are in a lane:
- All swimmers MUST swim in a counter-clockwise circular
motion.
- Stay to the right of the lane.
- Overtaking/Passing
- Faster swimmers must pass to the left when overtaking a slower
swimmer and then return immediately to the right side of the lane.
- When passing a slower swimmer, the overtaking swimmer is
responsible for avoiding any swimmer approaching them from the
opposite direction.
- Slower swimmers must let faster swimmers pass.
- When swimming into the wall, keep to the right of the lane so
that a person passing you at the end of the lane will have space to
turn.
- If someone is at your heels when you reach the wall, pause to
allow that person to pass.
- Changing Lanes
- If you are swimming faster or slower than others in your lane,
you must move to a more appropriate lane.
- If you are stretching or doing other water exercises, you must
move to the recreational/therapeutic lane (Lane #1).
- Courtesy
- All swimmers are expected to be respectful of others.
- If a problem arises, let the lifeguard know.
